WHO AM I? I am a 23 year old writer and student. I love reading, sleeping, caffeine, tattoos and haircuts.
WHY WRITING? Writing is all I know. I have a love-hate relationship with my words. Ultimately though, my words have saved me, pushed me and carried me. Words are my haven, my sanity and my coping mechanism. Besides, I'm useless at sports, and the only things I can draw, are hearts and pregnant stick-men.
WHAT DO I DO? I am currently studying Humanities (English, Philosophy and History) at the University of Stellenbosch. I spend the vast majority of my time doing nothing (i.e. reading things on Twitter, Facebook, BBM, Whatsapp and Wordpress, and lying about in bed, staring at my ceiling), and a lot of time doing everything (i.e. studying, going to the gym, reading books and writing blogs and my novel). My perfect day is one in which I get to write, sleep in late, eat lots of forbidden things and curl up into my girlfriend's arms.
WHAT DO I WRITE ABOUT? I am currently editing and writing a novel called "Sex, Cigarettes and The Endless Inbetween", which tells the stories of three women, each with a different sexual orientation, background, belief system and ways of living. I call these three women The Lover, The Mother and The Wanderer, and they are all each other's alter ego's - in other words, they are all the same woman essentially, however different versions of themselves. I also do a bit of children's writing (however this is just for fun), I also regularly contribute to my blog, Onbeinggayandotherthings, where I try to turn emotions into advice. Most of the time, I feel a little bit like Oprah.
WHY DO I BLOG UNDER THIS NAME? Because I am a lesbian, and, for the most part, unashamed of it. Because this is about being gay, and being straight, and believing in something, and also about believing in nothing. It's about all the little things in the world, and also all the big ones.
MOST RANDOM FACT ABOUT ME? I own a black rabbit, Petunia, with whom I love to cuddle.
